FAIRBANKS — University of Alaska Fairbanks rifle standout Sagen Maddalena was named to the USA Shooting National Team, the UAF athletic department announced Friday in a news release.
Maddalena, a native of Groveland, California, who will serve as a co-captain for the Nanooks as a senior this season, earned her spot on the national team after capturing the silver medal in the 10-meter women’s air rifle event at the USA Shooting National Rifle and Pistol Championships on July 2 in Fort Benning, Georgia.
As a member of the national team, Maddalena will represent the U.S. at various World Cups, World Championships and Intercontinental Championships.
She will accompany Ole Miss sharpshooter Alison Weisz, who took home gold in the 10-meter women’s air rifle with a score of 837.4 at the USA Shooting National Rifle and Pistol Championships, on the national team.
Maddalena finished with a total score of 837.3.
She has been an NRA First Team All-American in smallbore once and air rifle twice.
