April 5, 1936 – July 5, 2017
Marjorie, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, known to her friends as “Margie,” passed away peacefully on July 5, 2017, at the age of 81 years in Montara, Calif.
Born in Santa Barbara on April 5, 1936, Margie spent her youth in Orcutt and Santa Maria, Calif., and attended Hancock College where she obtained her Associate of Arts degree in computer science. Margie started her own bookkeeping and tax business and sustained it throughout her adult life. She was an enrolled agent for tax preparation and was well loved by her clients.
She moved to Oklahoma for a brief period but returned to California and lived in San Francisco, Pacifica and Hayfork before settling in Montara, Calif. At the time of her death, she had lived in Montara for over 30 years.
Margie was a giving and compassionate person and was active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and other community organizations, including groups dealing with alcohol and drug abuse. She unselfishly gave her time and energy to travel throughout the state to help her community programs.
She is survived by her loving husband of over 50 years, Grant Tovey of Montara, Calif., and two children who loved her immensely: Cheryl McClane of Bethel Island, Calif., and Robert Sprouse of Santa Maria, Calif. She was predeceased by her eldest son, Richard Sprouse. She was lovingly called Nana by her six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 15, 2017, from…
