The Mountain Home Public Schools Athletics Department is expected to fill multiple coaching vacancies in the program at Thursday’s meeting of the Mountain Home School Board.

According to MHPS Athletics Director Mitch Huskey, the school plans to hire a new head baseball coach, new boys’ head soccer coach, new head junior high football coach and fill several vacant assistant coaching roles throughout the football program.

The new head baseball coach will be one of six applicants interviewed last week.

In-house applicants were assistant coaches Blake Hendricks and Phillip Taylor.

Also interviewed were: current volunteer assistant coach Kevin Lofthus; former Bomber, UALR and minor league player Ryan McMains, who now coaches at Liberty Towers in California; former Razorback, Philadelphia Phillies farmhand and Fayetteville American Legion player, Tim Carver, who served as an assistant coach last year in West Plains; and Chase Brewster, a former coach at Genoa Central High School near Texarkana.

Also applying but not interviewed were: William Barton, Mena; Greg Harris, head baseball coach at Huntsville; Chad Mercado, assistant coach at Beebe; James Sharp, a student at Arkansas Tech; and Cuyler Marty, an assistant coach at Alton, Mo.

The new head junior high football coach will come from an in-house promotion, Huskey said, with that decision to be determined at the board meeting.
