Music, murals, culture all part of Long Beach’s POW! WOW! street art festival – California News




Renowned artists will emblazon prominent buildings in Long Beach with massive murals this week during the third annual POW! WOW! street art festival.

The weeklong celebration of culture, music and art, happens today through Sunday, and will leave almost 20 new murals scattered across town.

The festivities begin on Sunday with the grand opening of a pop-up installation at MADE by Millworks at 240 Pine Ave. Guests will be able to purchase exclusive Pow Wow! merchandise, listen to tunes from the POW! WOW! School of music and enjoy drinks from 6 to 8 p.m.

The pop-up shop will continue into next Sunday until completion of the festival.

Organizers have also planned a number of other events in celebration of POW! WOW!:

• 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, a talk about the career and work of artist Adele Renault, hosted by Jeff Staple, at the Art Theatre, 2025 E. 4th St., Long Beach. Tickets are $5 and can be purchased online.

• 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, street artist Tatiana Suarez will discuss her career with Sarah Bennett at the Art Theatre, 2025 E. 4th St., Long Beach. Tickets are $5.

• 5:30-9:30 p.m. Thursday, Residents of all ages have been invited to Party at the Cove where food, music and a new bridge will presented by the Long Beach Convention and Visitors Bureau. The event is free but guests are encouraged to RSVP.

• 10 a.m.-8 p.m. Saturday, The Varden Hotel will feature live art, DJs, and refreshments for the Art Battle presented by Olukai. Mike Giant hosts and all ages are invited to attend. Registration will begin at 10 a.m. at 335 Pacific Ave., Long Beach.
