SAFFORD — The soothing sound of water shooting in the air before gently splashing back down is back.
The fountain in front of the City of Safford Annex Building returned to operation this week, part of a citywide effort at beautification.

“That’s the focus of this fiscal year — to beautify the city,” said Safford City manager Horatio Skeete. “The mayor (Jason Kouts) really pushed for (the fountain to run again). It will be on from 7 a.m. to about 10 p.m., but the hours are seasonal.”
The beautification plan included upgrades to all the city parks, with Glenn Meadows Park currently undergoing a full renovation.
“The grass is coming in later than we thought, so we’ll probably open the park at the end of summer. And the end of September will be the official grand reopening,” Skeete said.
