Marijuana ban on agenda
The Planning Commission at its 7 p.m. Monday meeting will consider an ordinance banning nonmedical marijuana dispensaries as well as outside cultivation of the plant. Medical marijuana dispensaries already are banned in Whittier
The proposed law is in response to the November passage of Proposition 64 which legalized such activities in California.
The proposed ordinance will not outlaw plants grown inside homes, which is allowed under the measure. It also won’t block homegrown marijuana where minors can see the plants.
Council members in April had asked for such language, but Keith F. Collins, an attorney for the city, said in a staff report there appeared no way to enforce such regulations.
