The code words “Omaha Beach” are not as meaningful today as they were in the months and years following June 6, 1944, when Allied soldiers braved machine gun and artillery fire and landed on five beaches in Normandy to begin the liberation of France from German occupation during World War II.

Sergeant Roy Billings, one of those invading soldiers, will recollect his wartime memories at noon on Tuesday, July 18, at the Allied Arts Guild at 75 Arbor Road in Menlo Park.

The talk will take place at the Menlo Park Kiwanis Club’s weekly meeting for club members and guests. Visitors who would like to attend should contact the club online or call (650) 327-1313.

With Mr. Billings will be his son and guardian Mike Billings, who recently accompanied his father on a trip to Washington, D.C., with financial assistance from Honor Flight Bay Area, to visit a World War II memorial.
