Elk Grove police detained an injured man who allegedly shot and killed a person at a Laguna parking lot on July 3. He remained at a local hospital for treatment, as of press time.
Another shooting occurred later during the early morning of July 5 when an unknown person shot and wounded a man in north Elk Grove.
The July 3 incident is Elk Grove’s first homicide of the year. Sacramento County coroners did not identify the victim, as of press time.
Elk Grove police spokesperson Christopher Trim said that officers were notified about a shooting that happened at the Avery Gardens apartment complex around 9 p.m. They arrived at the scene at the 7500 block of Elk Grove Boulevard and reportedly found the deceased victim in a vehicle.
Trim said that an injured man later visited a local hospital that night and investigators determined that he is the suspected gunman. They also believe that another suspect was involved in the incident. Trim reported the shooting was not random.
He said that officers are waiting until the suspect is medically cleared before they arrest him and book him into the Sacramento County Main Jail. Authorities declined to release the suspect’s name, as of press time.
The city’s second shooting occurred on July 5 around 3:15 a.m. at the 8600 block of Blue Maiden Way. Trim said the gunman traveled in a white Camaro and shot the victim. Bullets also reportedly struck a neighbor’s house; none of the occupants were injured.
