Damian Samano isn’t a rock star, but his talents in digital media sure have earned him attention.
Samano, an in-coming senior at Colbert County High School, has been working this summer to perfect his filming skills in the area of promotional video. It culminated last week in his task of creating a promotional video for the rock band, Velcro Pygmies.
The band performed Thursday night at the Marriott Shoals as part of the W.C. Handy Music Festival.
Samano, who first met the band last spring when they performed a special concert at his school, worked on the marketing and promotion for the event and did the video promotion.
According to the school’s marketing and information technology teacher April Clark, the band’s lead singer, Cameron Flener, after seeing Samano’s video, reached out to him providing him access to professional camera equipment to work with and hone his skills.
“This was such an incredible opportunity for Damian and could result in a great job opportunity down the line,” Clark said.
“He’s a super creative kid and (Cameron) has such a heart for helping kids that it just all came together. Damian’s first promotional video was cool, but now he has this awesome opportunity.”
Samano, 18, said he didn’t think when he met Flener that it would lead to (Flener) placing his trust in him with his band’s promotion.
“I’m so happy to be working with Cameron and learning so much more professionally about videography and recording,” Samano said.
