A yellow school bus sat beside N China Lake Boulevard on Monday morning with a banner advertising the charity event called “Fill The Bus,” which calls on the community to donate packs of copy paper, No. 2 pencils, and Kleenex.
The donation event will take place from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. outside of Walmart on Saturday, August 5. Grace Lutheran Church, with help from other members of the community, is hosting the event. Grace is working together with Sierra Sands Unified School District. SSUSD Superintendent Ernie Bell told the Daily Independent that the items “Fill The Bus” is requesting are the items schools typically run out of first, so the event will be a great help to local schools and students.
This is the first time Fill The Bus has run in Ridgecrest, and Grace Lutheran hopes to make it an annual event. The church will have volunteers outside of Walmart on Saturday to collect donations. Feel free to donate all three items, or even just one of them. Those wishing to donate early can do so at the church on 502 N Norma St.
