Hart baseball’s Jefferis makes college decision – Santa Clarita Valley Signal – California News

For Hart baseball’s Cody Jefferis, committing to the University of San Diego the summer before his senior year brought a mixture of emotions.

“Of course it’s a relief,” he said after announcing his decision via Twitter on Thursday. “Committing to a school is a big deal, and it takes a lot of pressure off of your back. Everyone wants to play ball in college.

“It helps build confidence, too. It’s exciting. It’s really nice to know you get to continue to play ball at the next level.”

In his junior campaign, Jefferis hit .381 and reached base over 45 percent of the time. He also was 14-for-16 on stolen base attempts on his way to earning All-Foothill League first team and All-SCV second team honors.

Jefferis visited USD’s campus a few weeks ago and one week after that campus tour, he made up his mind. On July 27, he called the Toreros’ head coach and made his commitment to the NCAA Division 1 program official.

“Walking around the campus and talking to the coaches, I had no problem with anything at USD and it felt like the place I wanted to be for the next four years,” Jefferis said.

He plans to major in criminal psychology.

Jefferis was part of an Indians team that finished third in the Foothill League and reached the first round of the CIF-Southern Section Division 1 tournament this past season.

He’s one piece of a talented group of Hart returners that includes Cole Roederer and Bryce Collins, to name a few.
