Long Beach Special Olympians To Compete In 2018 USA Games | Entertainment – California News

About seven Long Beach Special Olympians will be part of the 70 members of the Southern California Delegation competing in the 2018 USA Games July 1-6, 2018, in Seattle, Wash.

More than 70,000 attendees are expected, with about 3,500 athletes at the event showcasing the abilities of those with intellectual disabilities.

It’s the largest Special Olympics Southern California (SOSC) delegation for the games, representing a wide range of demographics from nine regions and 33 cities. Ages range from 16 to 63, and a pair of Long Beach Unified School District teams will be there for the first time. The Southern California areas range from Anaheim to Yucca Valley.

Those from Long Beach include Krysten Augustine, Andrew Gates, Matthew Lawrence, Matthew Morse, Joseph Phillips, Travis Ridley and Nicholas Laguna.

To get to this point, athletes competed at the 48th Annual Special Olympics Southern California Summer Games June 10 and 11 at California State University, Long Beach, among other Long Beach venues.
