BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) — Danny Mendick hit a run-scoring single in the seventh inning, leading the Birmingham Barons to a 4-2 win over the Pensacola Blue Wahoos on Sunday.

Jace Fry got Shed Long to ground out with a runner on first to end the game for his second save of the season.

The single by Mendick, part of a two-run inning, gave the Barons a 3-2 lead before Nick Basto hit an RBI single later in the inning.

Josh VanMeter scored on a forceout in the fourth inning to give the Blue Wahoos a 1-0 lead. The Barons came back to take the lead in the fourth inning when Hunter Jones and Courtney Hawkins hit back-to-back solo home runs.

Pensacola tied the game 2-2 in the seventh when Gabriel Guerrero hit a solo home run.

Starter Jordan Stephens (2-3) got the win while Tanner Rainey (0-1) took the loss in relief in the Southern League game.

Despite the loss, Pensacola is 4-2 against Birmingham this season.
