Milford man killed in boating accident ID’d – Connecticut News

The state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection has identified the Milford man who died following a boating accident Saturday.

Joseph Regan, 43, from Milford, died after being ejected from the boat he was driving in New Haven Harbor after it hit a buoy, DEEP said in a press release.

A 47-year-old passenger from Guilford, identified as Robert Ross, was also ejected but swam back to the vessel and radioed for help. State Environmental Conservation police along with New Haven Fire Department and U.S. Coast Guard were dispatched around 10:30 p.m., DEEP said.

Both Regan and Ross were transported to Yale New Haven Hospital, where Regan was pronounced dead.

On its Facebook page, club president Jim Pritchard posted: “It is with a very heavy heart and much sadness I need to inform every one of the passing of one of our members. Joe Regan passed away due to a boating accident last night. I don’t know any details except the most important one. We lost a valued member and a friend Joe was a big participant in many club events. His work schedule limited his time but he was always there to help at the trout derby, annual picnic and whenever and where ever he could. Just an awesome guy. He will truly be missed. Our deepest sympathy goes out to his family and friends.”

State Environmental Police continue to investigate the accident.
