New lawyers to represent Moffat County school district – Colorado News

The board of education has selected new legal representation after conducting interviews during a special meeting of the board Wednesday.

Grand Junction based Hoskin, Farina & Kampf Professional Corporation was selected to replace lawyer Kathleen Sullivan.

Sullivan was legal council for the Colorado Association of School Boards and provided legal services to the board in recent years. She has accepted a position with the Cherry Creek School District, prompting her resignation, said School Superintendent Dave Ulrich at the board’s special meeting recently.

The board interviewed three firms:

• Hoskin, Farina & Kampf Professional Corporation with main office in Grand Junction and offices in Gunnison and Denver.

• Lyon Gaddis Attorneys and Counselors with offices in Longmont and Louisville.

Lawyers representing each firm were asked 10 questions regarding expertise in labor and employment law, special education law and bond counsel.

“They are all qualified,” said board member Sue Voloshin.

Questions were also asked to determine how firms would make themselves available, ensure a smooth transition, help mitigate risk and bill the district.

In both his letter of proposal and presentation to the board, lawyer David Price, representing Hoskin, Farina & Kamf, addressed his firm’s ability to travel to Craig, as is his practice with many clients.

“I visit them (school boards) at least once a year… my price for that is you buy me dinner,” Price said.
