STAMFORD — Police issued 38 tickets in six hours Sunday at Cummings Park for drinking, marijuana possession, vehicle infractions and public urination.
The crackdown was in response to complaints from neighbors about loud music, public drunkenness, drug use and people driving recklessly through the park.
Eight people were ticketed for drinking alcohol in glass containers and two people summonses for marijuana possession. Police issued 11 tickets to drivers for not stopping for a crosswalk.
Three motorcyclists also raced through the park, passing other cars as they sped past the police about 9:30 p.m. Sunday. Officers apprehended one of the bikers and terminated the pursuit of the others when the chase became too dangerous, police said.
Police plan to continue the quality-of-life patrols in all city parks and beaches for the remainder of the summer.
“We will not let this small percentage of people disrupt the beautiful beaches and parks of this city and this behavior will not be tolerated,” the police said in a statement. “The goal of the Stamford Police Department is to make the beaches and parks safe and enjoyable for everyone to enjoy.”
