Andressian Sr. pleads guilty to killing 5-year-old South Pasadena boy – California News





ALHAMBRA >> A South Pasadena man admitted in court Tuesday to killing his 5-year-old son, while his estranged wife looked on from the gallery, crying and holding an urn containing the boy’s ashes.

Aramazd Andressian Sr. changed his earlier “not guilty” plea and pleaded guilty to the first-degree murder of his son, Aramazd “Piqui” Andressian Jr., during a hearing at Alhambra Superior Court.

He is expected to receive 25 years to life in prison at his Aug. 23 sentencing.

Andressian Jr. disappeared April 22 while in the custody of his father. Two months later, detectives discovered his body in a wooded area in Santa Barbara County. Andressian Sr. told them where to look

“Today, Mr. Andressian took responsibility for what he did,” his lawyer, Ambrosio Rodriguez, said after the hearing. “Today marks the beginning of the end to this awful tragedy.”

Rodriguez said his client wanted to plead guilty. He said that’s why Andressian gave information to detectives leading them to the body.

He said Andressian regretted killing his son. Rodriguez said his client “acted alone” and that no one in his family was aware of what he did.

Deputy District Attorney Craig Hum said there was no plea deal with the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office. Hum said the killing was deliberate and planned.

“He had this in mind,” Hum said. However, Hum said he couldn’t say when or how the murder occurred.
