City man who fled New Haven police charged him with attempted burglary, stalking – Connecticut News

NEW HAVEN >> A 25-year-old city man was arrested after attempting to break into a home on Dewitt Street and fleeing police Monday night, police said Wednesday.

Davon Rakil Hailey, of Oak Ridge Drive, is charged with second-degree burglary, eight counts of third-degree trespassing, stalking and interfering with an officer, police said.

Hailey allegedly knocked on the door and rang the doorbell of a home in the 100 block of Dewitt Street before attempting to climb through the window. The homeowner told police that he had seen Hailey trying to climb through his window and immediately called 911, the release said.

In addition, police said, Hailey used to date a 16-year-old female who was in the neighborhood that night and he had been under investigation because of a domestic threatening complaint.

The former girlfriend told police she believed Hailey had tried to break into the home on Dewitt Street because he was looking for her, the release said.

When officers approached Hailey, he ran and scaled fences of eight residential properties before being caught by officers on Rosette Street, police said.
