Benefit for Phantom Projects planned

A collection of nearly two decades of performers will join supporters, donors and community leaders for “The Phantom Cabaret: A Benefit Cabaret Supporting Arts Education at 6 p.m. Aug. 5 at the La Mirada Theatre for the Performing Arts.

The event will pay tribute to Phantom Projects’ 20-year history and dedication to helping young people through the arts and includes dinner, drinks, a silent auction, raffles and more.

The event will feature performances and presentations from alumni, including Ashley Arlene Nelson, David “Flying Fez” Lee, Andrew Cano, Emily Rose Githens, Ashley Diane, Danielle Keaton, Faith Stafford, Emily Pearce and Roxana Franco.

The silent auction and drawings at the event include a one-week Mexico vacation, tickets to “Hamilton,” an autographed playbill signed by the entire cast of the recent Tony award winner for best musical “Dear Evan Hansen,” a basketball signed by the entire Los Angeles Clippers basketball team and nearly 100 other items. Phantom Projects, a nonprofit theatre troupe has performed for over 500,000 teens through its combination of shows.

VFW to hold Hawaiian luau

The Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary to Post 9148, 13932 Valley View Ave., will hold a Hawaiian Luau at 4:30 p.m.

It will be a pork dinner with music and dancing

Local group to host free movie night

The Whittier Area Peace and Justice Coalition is hosting a free movie night at 7 p.m. on Thursday at St. Matthias Episcopal Church, 7056 Washington Ave.
