It’s another world on the North Shore of Big Bear Lake. And nowhere is that more true than at the Big Bear Renaissance Faire, presented by the Big Bear Valley Renaissance Society Inc.
The faire runs four weekends in August, each with a theme. Come with bells on your toes and a skip in your step to the Fairy Frolic Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 5 and 6. Vendors specialize in all things fairies.
Thar be pirates at the Aug. 12 and 13 Pirate Take Over. Ar-r-r-gh, who doesn’t love to talk like a pirate? Join the band of buccaneers, scallywags and wenches.
Rub elbows with royalty at the Aug. 19 and 20 Royal Purple Weekend. Jousting and tea dueling are on the agenda.
Then get punked on the final weekend during the Aug. 26 and 27 Steampunk Weekend. Go back to an alternate time when steam and gears made the world go round.
Entertainers scheduled to perform include the Imperial Knights, a jousting team of real horses, real men, real weapons and maybe some real blood; Joust Kidding, a high-energy singing group; Cutthroat Reef, pirates and more pirates; The Lynx Show, a blend of magic, sword swallowing and comedy; Tribal Beats, belly dancers and more.
Learn the tricks of the trades at the Barrett’s Privateers, Danse Macabre, Tuatha De Dannon, Sea Wolf, Tinkers Common and Chap Stand guild pavilions.
