Middletown man accused of assaulting 2 after making lewd remark to woman – Connecticut News


MIDDLETOWN >> A 52-year-old city man is accused of attacked two people after making an inappropriate comment about a woman in front of her male companion.

Jeffrey Steffen of Pleasant Street was arrested July 28 and charged with third-degree criminal mischief, breach of peace and third-degree assault.

A man and a woman were sitting at a picnic table when Steffen approached them and allegedly told the woman to perform a lewd act. The man claimed he asked Steffen to leave and Steffen allegedly challenged the male victim saying, “what are you going to do about it?”

Steffen then allegedly hit the woman in the face, knocked of her glasses off and punched the man in the face. The man claimed he was forced to punch Steffen back to get away from them.

The man alleged he and the woman walked away from Steffen, but Steffen followed them. As they walked past a restaurant, Steffen allegedly picked up a menu sign and smashed it and took a board from the sign and hit the man with it.

He was issued a court date of Aug. 11.
