The second edition of the second running of the Taste of South Logan County saw about between 100 and 150 plates sold through the fundraiser for the Booneville Development Corporation/South Logan County Chamber of Commerce last Wednesday.
BDC/Chamber Executive Director Susan Featherston said only about 100 plates were served at the Jeral Hampton Meeting Place, but she felt it seemed like more. She added several tickets were pre-sold that were not redeemed.
Prior to 2016, the last time the event was held it was slated during the dead period for high school athletes and the large number of people out of town for vacation likely contributed to the low attendance.
Only a year earlier the event had attracted about 175 in the first two hours and there wasn’t enough main course offerings to continue selling plates. The event has drawn as many as 200. In 2010 attendance was only about 120 but the event had drawn the most food options in its brief history. Attendance for the inaugural event in 2007 was about 200.
Money from the fundraiser is coupled with that raised in the organization’s color run, which will be held for the second time on Sept. 9, and is put toward paying for speakers for the organization’s annual banquet, Featherston said.
The event also hopes to identify who are the top chefs in South Logan County. To that end, those eating selected Brenda Brewer’s bacon dressed potatoes as the best main dish, Rosezanna Webster’s layered salad as the best side dish, and Tiffany Rodatz’s banana pudding as the best dessert.
