Thai-style rolled ice cream is the food version of frosé in summer 2017. It’s trendy, cool (in this case, literally) and it’s all over your Instagram. But the unique ice cream from Chaos & Cream is more than just a pretty face — it’s actually quite tasty.
It all starts with a big, frozen stainless-steel circle. The liquid base cream is poured onto the circle, and then mix-ins like strawberries, Oreos or, in the case of the S’mores flavor, graham crackers, Hershey’s chocolate and marshmallows, are blended into the base as it freezes.
The chilled cream is spread thin over the circle like a giant ice cream tortilla and then scraped up into cute little frozen taquito-like rolls.
“Our customers love the preparation — complete with a marshmallow toasted with a crème brûlée torch — as much as they love the flavor,” owner Brian Rosen said.
While Chaos & Cream doesn’t have its own brick and mortar storefront, you can find it inside The Source Mondays through Thursdays from 3-9 p.m. and at various farmers’ markets throughout summer.
