BREAKING: Silverthorne SWAT standoff involves man who rammed police car, escaped authorities last night – Colorado News

An unidentified man who police believe they have surrounded outside a Quality Inn in Silverthorne allegedly rammed a Dillon police officer’s car last before escaping authorities and abandoning his car in Frisco.

At least 12 patrol cars from local law enforcement agencies have been arrayed outside the Quality Inn along with the Summit County Sheriff’s Office’s SWAT vehicle since around 11:30 a.m.

Breckenridge police chief and incident spokesman Dennis McLaughlin said at around 5 p.m. Wednesday that police still weren’t 100 percent certain that the suspect was in the Quality Inn and were proceeding with abundant caution because the man is believed to be armed.

McLaughlin said that local police received a description of the suspect, who is wanted in Aurora, at about 8:30 Tuesday night. Dillon police attempted to stop a car matching the description of the suspect’s vehicle, but he allegedly rammed the patrol car and sped away. The officer was not injured.

Silverthorne police then saw the vehicle but lost it after a short chase, McLaughlin said. It then turned up in Frisco, and more than a dozen police officers responded to a local office complex off Main Street where the suspect was believed to be.

Sheriff’s deputies deployed a canine, but did not find the suspect. They received the tip that he was at the Quality Inn late the next morning.
