WALLINGFORD >> Police are investigating after a pedestrian was struck and seriously injured on Center Street Wednesday night, according to a release.
Lt. Anthony DeMaio of the Traffic Division, said in the release that the pedestrian, a 35-year-old Meriden woman, was struck shortly before 9 p.m. near the intersection with South Orchard Street.
The driver of the car, a 19-year-old town man, was westbound on Center Street when the collision occurred, according to the release.
Police said the woman was struck “within the westbound travel lane [of Center Street] in close proximity to a marked pedestrian crosswalk.”
She was taken to Yale New Haven Hospital and as of Friday was being treated for “multiple fractures of her right leg, right arm, and skull,” police said.
Police said the busy stretch of road was closed for several hours, as the Police Department’s Traffic Division reconstructed the collision. Anyone who witnessed the incident is asked to call Officer Anthony Baur at 203-294-2817 or DeMaio at 203-294-2838.
