A man who is under investigation for a possible role in the robbery of almost two dozen fast-food restaurants in Orange County has been charged in two robberies in Riverside County.
Jose Felipe Fernandez, 28, was charged with two counts of armed robbery and one count of evading police — all felonies — on July 31, Superior Court records show.
Fernandez has two prior “strikes” on his record. The Riverside County District Attorney’s Office successfully requested that his bail be increased from $1 million to $5 million, court records show.
Fernandez pleaded not guilty to all charges, which include two enhancements that he used a firearm to commit a felony. His next court appearance is scheduled for Aug. 9.
Riverside police believe Fernandez robbed a Carl’s Jr. on July 27 and a Pizza Hut on July 20. Witnesses to the July 27 robbery provided a description of the getaway vehicle, which was spotted minutes later. Police pursued the vehicle until it crashed and touched off a small brush fire.
