Connecticut parade honoring veterans canceled due to cost – News – The Bulletin – Connecticut News

HARTFORD — A parade that honors U.S. veterans in Connecticut’s capital city has been canceled.

Organizers of the Connecticut Veterans Parade say they are not planning a November procession in Hartford this year, citing the high cost of running the event and difficulty raising money.

The parade has been coordinated by the nonprofit Connecticut Veterans Fund. President Ray Lilley tells The Hartford Courant the parade costs about $100,000 and has been funded mostly through corporate donations and individual contributions.

The event is billed as the largest veterans parade in New England. Thousands of active, retired and honorably discharged military members marched at the most recent parade near the state Capitol and around downtown Hartford.
