Fire affects travel on Highway 38 | Big Bear Valley News – California News

UPDATE, 5:44 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 3: Firefighters continue to work on the Bryant Fire off Highway 38 and Bryant Street near Yucaipa. The fire is now approximately 150 acres.

Approximately 100 firefighters are on scene including several helicopters and retardant dropping fixed-wing aircraft. There are no evacuations at this time.

Highway 38 remains closed from Greenspot Road to Big Bear City. Outflow winds from thunderstorms in the area are a concern.


UPDATE, 4:10 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 3: The Bryant Fire is now at 100 acres and under unified command with the U.S. Forest Service, CalFire and San Bernardino County Fire.


A fire was reported near Highway 38 and Bryant Street in the Mill Creek area of Yucaipa around 2:36 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 3.

Highway 38 is now closed from about a half-mile east of Redlands at Bryant Street to 3.2 miles east of Redlands at Thurman Flats because of the brush fire. A detour is available. Additional road closures are being requested.

A hard closure is being set up by California Highway Patrol at Highway 38 and Lake William Road in the Big Bear City area.

The fire is currently at 10 acres with a moderate rate of spread. Structure protection groups are being formed.
