Joel Farbstein opens the lid on an unusual action by the Montara Water and Sanitary District (Review, July 19). As a relative newcomer to the Coastside, I had the same reaction: Why is MWSD spending time investigating acquiring land for purposes outside their business interests? Are there other board member interests at play here? Is this perhaps about open space control?
The need to retain that land as right of way for a future “ridge road” all the way to Highway 92 seems so obvious due to the traffic increase from the new Devil’s Slide tunnels. There is no way Highway 1 can handle all future tourists and locals. I don’t see how a good quality of life can be achieved with such extreme density on Highway 1.
I think MSWD needs to stay in the water and sanitary business and leave this property under Caltrans’ control to have a healthy environmental future.
