A stacked field of almost 100 golfers will tee off Monday for the first round of the Ultimate Auto Group Golf Tournament at Big Creek Golf & Country Club.
Eight schools are bringing boys and girls teams, while two more will bring boys squads to the tournament, which will be held at noon Monday and 8 a.m. Tuesday.
Schools bringing two teams include: Mountain Home, Shiloh Christian, Marion, Jonesboro, Harrison, Siloam Springs, North Little Rock and Greenwood, while Buffalo Island Central and Little Rock Catholic should have enough for boys groups.
Mountain Home head golf coach Dell Leonard said 97 players are expected, with Deer bringing one boy, Berryville bringing one boy and one girl, and Mount St. Mary’s bringing one or two girls.
“It’s going to be a really large field,” Leonard said. “It may make for slow play, but you’re giving as many kids as you can the opportunity to play.”
Leonard said if teams choose to, they can come out Sunday and play a practice round.
“I’m thankful,” Leonard said, “that when I went to (Big Creek head professional) Todd Dunnaway and said we had some other schools who wanted in, he said ‘the more, the merrier.’ We’re very thankful for Big Creek for allowing us to host and thankful for Ultimate to sponsor, because it’s one of the best tournaments in the state. We’re really proud of our course and our community.”
