The Chico Nuts’ offense returned Friday morning in time to bounce New Mexico, 17-6 to keep the team alive in the American Legion Western Regional at Regency Athletic Complex at Metro State University.
Chico is in the loser’s bracket after getting beat Thursday 9-1 by Nevada State champion Henderson Post 40. With the win, Chico plays the loser of Nevada and Utah today at 6 p.m.
Daniel Walsh led the Nuts with four hits, including two doubles on the day and three RBIs, and Trenton York had two hits and two RBI. Braden Del Carlo had a double and a triple and drove in two. Ryan Bolf added two hits for Chico who pounded out 17 hits in the romp.
Zach Perkins pitched seven innings to get the win. He struck out eight, walked two and scattered nine hits. He allowed four earned runs while throwing 111 pitches, 80 for strikes.
