State police are seeking a man they say burglarized a home in Hampton on Wednesday and then barricaded himself in a Willimantic home.
Police say Troop D troopers were dispatched before 12:30 p.m. Wednesday to a suspicious vehicle occupied by two white males in the area of 713 Brook Road, Hampton. Police say the caller said the vehicle pulled into his driveway and upon seeing him, sped away quickly.
In speaking with the homeowner, police said they determined a large amount of liquor, electronics and jewelry were stolen from the residence.
According to police, the vehicle is registered to Charles Clarke, of 85 Birch St., Willimantic. Willimantic Police Department and Troop K were notified of the vehicle and incident.
At 12:40 p.m., Willimantic Police Department contacted Troop D in Danielson, advising that a detective saw a vehicle matching the description and occupied by two white males on Spring Street in Willimantic. In responding to 85 Birch St., the detective saw the vehicle parked in the driveway, police said.
Troopers arrived at the residence, joining the detective, who said Clarke was known by Willimantic police.
Police said a trooper and the detective tried to make contact from the exterior staircase with Clarke who was in a third-floor apartment. When the trooper reached the top of the stairs, identifying as police, the trooper heard movement inside the apartment, police said.
According to police, Clarke responded verbally to the trooper and the trooper heard what sounded like a piece of furniture being moved against the door.
