Vina >> A Corning woman remains in very serious condition after she was struck by a southbound Union Pacific freight train at 11:45 a.m. Sunday at the Seventh Street railroad crossing in Vina, the Tehama County Sheriff’s Office said.
Sheriff’s Lt. Yvette Borden said Yadira Novoa, 26 of Corning, had been swimming in the area with friends.
“At one point, she left her friends to walk back to the parked car and was alone when this incident happened,” Borden said in a statement. “At some point during her walk back toward the car she is struck by the train.”
Borden said Novoa is alive, but remains in a local hospital.
“Her injuries were very serious,” she said.
