DEEP: Gardner Lake, Mashamoquet Brook, Quaddick closed pending resampling of water – News – The Bulletin – Connecticut News

State parks Gardner Lake in Salem, Mashamoquet Brook in Pomfret and Quaddick in Thompson are closed, pending a resampling of the water, the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection said in a press release Friday morning.

DEEP released its swimming area water quality report Friday following water sample testing from state swimming areas and beaches.

Gardner Lake will be closed to the public, pending a resampling on Thursday with results expected on Friday.

Mashamoquet Brook and Quaddick will be closed to the public, pending a resampling on Monday with results expected on Tuesday.

Samples are collected weekly by DEEP staff and are analyzed at the Department of Public Health Lab for the presence of certain indicator bacteria.

The indicator bacteria are not disease-causing pathogens, DEEP said in the release, but are one of the tools used by public health and environmental protection authorities to evaluate the potential for contamination of waterbodies.
