LAMP moves into new home

LAMP ’s long-awaited move into the One Center, formerly the Montgomery Mall, became official on Friday.

A week before that, teachers began moving into their classrooms. On Thursday, parents and students were invited to help with last-minute painting, unpacking and cleaning before the first day of school Aug. 10.

Students could be seen painting stairwell rails, cleaning glass cabinets and unpacking books onto library shelves.

LAMP seniors Cole Womble and Alayah Washington came ready to roll up their sleeves to help and were impressed by the stone archways and the collegiate look that greeted them at the school’s main entrance.

Moving inside, they found wide open areas and a centrally located library, maroon highlights, bright, beige walls and new furniture.

“It’s so great. It’s definitely been worth it to wait that long,” Womble said. “I’m glad we were in Houston Hill, so they could get this up and ready.”
