Vallecitos school superintendent to head Bonsall district – California News

Vallecitos School Superintendent David Jones will take over as head of Bonsall schools, according to a letter Jones submitted to the Vallecitos school board on Tuesday.

“I respectfully request the board approve my resignation as superintendent/principal of Vallecitos School District,” effective Aug. 15, he wrote. “I would very much appreciate board approval of an interim superintendent/principal, which will enable me to begin my new position as the superintendent of Bonsall Unified School District on Aug. 16.”

Bonsall School Superintendent Justin Cunningham left his position with the district on July 27, after resigning for health reasons. In an April blog post, Cunningham wrote that he had undergone a total knee replacement and would require extensive rehabilitation.

Vallecitos is a tiny district in the Rainbow area of North County, with two schools, a preschool and just 375 students. Neither Jonesn or other district officials could be reached for comment, but his Linkedin profile states that he has headed the district since July 2011. Before that, he worked as a principal in Del Mar Union School District, starting in 2004.

Bonsall has not yet named Jones as a replacement for Cunningham, but William Pickering, assistant superintendent for business services for the district, said its board will vote on a new superintendent at its meeting on Wednesday, Aug. 9.

But in his resignation letter earlier this week, Jones wrote that he plans to take over as Bonsall chief and offered a farewell to Vallecitos schools.
