Grass Valley police UPDATE: Suspect will face attempted murder charge in stabbing – California News

Grass Valley police say they’ll charge a man with attempted murder after a Sunday stabbing near downtown.

Eugene Maravel, 69, of Grass Valley, is accused of stabbing two men just before noon on North School Street. Officers found him minutes after the incident on Stewart Street and recovered the 4-inch folding pocket knife used in the attack, Capt. Steve Johnson said in a release.

Treated for a hand injury, Maravel once released from the hospital will be booked into the Nevada County Jail, the captain added.

According to Johnson, the stabbing happened in the 300 block of North School Street, where the victims live. One man was struck in the abdomen and the other in the back.

Maravel, who knows the men, was upset that they had property that belonged to him, Johnson said.

First-responders arrived at the scene and began treating the men. Officers learned the suspect’s identify and found him blocks away in the 100 block of Stewart Street, where Maravel lives, he added.
