Do you know what to do if you’re in an accident?
Drivers heading south on Interstate 17 near New River Sunday afternoon faced several miles of slow traffic following two crashes.
Traffic slowed for several hours this afternoon before clearing before 8 p.m., the Arizona Department of Transportation said.
The backup stemmed from a crash that briefly closed the left lane near milepost 231 south of New River, according to ADOT.
The lane was reopened, but afternoon drivers faced 12 miles of slow traffic leading up to the point of the crash.
A second crash north of New River near milepost 234 contributed to the slow traffic even though all lanes remained open, according to ADOT.
Traffic heading toward Phoenix was backed up north of Black Canyon City, according to ADOT.
Officials did not immediately have an update on crash details.
