Evans Police Department opens Citizens Police Academy – Colorado News

The Evans Police Department is taking applications for its fall 2017 Citizens Police Academy.

The free, eight-week academy will be held from 6-9 p.m. on Thursday evenings, starting on Sept. 7 and ending Oct. 26.

The Citizens Police Academy is designed to familiarize citizens with the operations of the police department. Participants will attend lectures and discussions on topics such as crime scene investigations, traffic enforcement, accident investigation, gangs, SWAT, crisis negotiations, narcotics, use of force, less lethal force and internal affairs.

Applicants must be at least 18 to participate and will have to undergo a background check. The academy is limited to 25 participants this year. Application deadline is Aug. 25.
