EASTLAKE, Ohio (AP) — Conner Capel hit two home runs, and Sean Brady allowed just three hits over five innings as the Lake County Captains topped the West Michigan Whitecaps 4-0 in the first game of a doubleheader on Sunday.
Brady (1-0) struck out four to pick up the win.
In the bottom of the first, Lake County grabbed the lead on a home run by Capel that scored Luke Wakamatsu. The Captains then added single runs in the fifth and sixth innings. In the fifth, Capel hit a solo home run, while Emmanuel Tapia hit a solo home run in the sixth.
Alfred Gutierrez (8-6) went six innings, allowing four runs and seven hits while striking out one in the Midwest League game. Henry Martinez pitched two scoreless innings for his third save of the season.
The Whitecaps were held scoreless for the fourth time this season, while the Captains’ staff recorded their fourth shutout of the year.
Despite the loss, West Michigan is 14-6 against Lake County this season.
