STOCKTON — A male was fatally shot in the early part of Monday evening in northeast Stockton, police reported.
A call came in about 6:32 p.m. that a person had been shot in the 2500 block of Parrish Court, near Cherbourg Drive and East Morada Lane.
The victim, whose identity has not been released, was found lying in the street in the residential neighborhood. Medics pronounced him deceased at the scene.
Radio traffic indicated the victim may have been shot in the neck and officers were advised to be on the lookout for three males in a black Toyota Camry, although that could not be confirmed Monday night.
A half-dozen people who appeared to know the victim were standing outside yellow police tape when they learned of his death. It was an emotional scene as they began sobbing and hugging one another.
One woman cried, “Why? Why?”
A man with the group said “No questions, no answers.”
Neighbors described hearing “very loud” gunfire at the time the shooting was reported. One woman said she heard at least 10 shots fired; a man thought it sounded like “two clips — one clip, then another clip was fired.”
A resident of 25 years in the neighborhood described the area as “very mellow. A lot of us know each other. This is not something we’ve seen in a very, very long time.”
