BERKELEY — Most of the residents routed by an apartment house fire in the Poet’s Corner neighborhood Sunday evening have been able to return to their apartments, fire officials said Monday.
The two-alarm fire, at 1420 Addison St. between Sacramento and Acton streets, injured at least one person, who suffered burns and was taken to a local hospital, according to Fire Chief Gil Dong. No further information on the injured person’s condition was immediately available Monday.
The fire was under control at 8:11 p.m., according to a tweet from Dong on Sunday.
On Monday, Dong said the fire started inside an apartment on the third floor of the three-story, 27-unit building. The cause of the fire was under investigation, he added.
Four people were displaced by the fire, and the Red Cross was assisting with temporary shelter, Dong said. One apartment was “a total loss due to fire,” Dong said, and two apartments below the one where the fire started incurred water damage. Power to the three damaged units was turned off.
The building was not red-tagged, Dong added.
