RANCHO CUCAMONGA >> Parents and students at Jasper Elementary may have noticed something different during their morning trek on the first day of school.
Crossing guards were no longer posted at three intersections: 18th and Jasper streets, 19th and Jasper streets, and Jasper and Hamilton streets.
The decision comes after two separate traffic studies conducted by a third-party firm found the six crossing guard locations in the Alta Loma School District no longer met the state’s criteria.
Rancho Cucamonga, which runs the $420,000 citywide program, notified the school district that guards will no longer be stationed at certain intersections for Jasper, Alta Loma, Carnelian and Deer Canyon elementary schools. One crossing guard has been added at Vineyard Junior High School.
