It’s summertime so the sun continues, with some clouds here and there. It’s expected to be in the 80s this week. Lows should be in the 60s.
Watering days are Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays from April 1 through Sept. 30.
Long Beach has settled into its summer rhythm of activities, with plenty of festivals and other items.
One of this weekend’s events is the Catalina Ski Race. The event for 24-foot boats starts at 8:53 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 12, between Oil Island White and Island Grissom inside Long Beach Harbor (weather/visibility permitting). All other boats begin at 9 a.m. Racers finish just off the Queen Mary’s stern area, with the race and scoring officially ending three hours after the start. The best viewing for the start is Bluff Park and the Queen Mary for the finish.
Another weekend item is the Long Beach Jazz Festival. The item runs from 6:30 to 10:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 11, with gates open at 5 p.m.; noon to 10 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 12 and 13, with gates open at 11 a.m. at Rainbow Lagoon Park (E. Shoreline Drive). Artists include Boney James, Najee, Bob James, Spyro Gyra, Eric Darius, Rachelle Ferrell, Will Downing and more. Other festival features include a Health & Wellness Pavilion, Second Stage Entertainment and more. The area will focus on wellness speakers/leaders, treatment centers, vendors and healthy food samples. The Second Stage will have more musical performances.
