KINSTON, N.C. (AP) — Josh Morgan doubled twice and singled twice, scoring three runs while driving in two as the Down East Wood Ducks defeated the Wilmington Blue Rocks 11-3 on Tuesday.
Luis La O singled three times with three runs for Down East.
Wilmington grabbed a 2-1 lead in the third after Roman Collins hit a two-run double.
After the teams traded runs, the Wood Ducks tied the game in the fourth inning when LeDarious Clark hit an RBI single, driving in Chuck Moorman.
Down East later scored in three additional innings, including a four-run eighth, when Carlos Garay hit a two-run single to help put the game out of reach.
Down East starter Kyle Cody (1-0) picked up the win despite allowing three runs and seven hits over five innings. Opposing starter Cristian Castillo (6-9) took the loss in the Carolina League game after a rough outing in which he allowed five runs and eight hits over 4 1/3 innings.
Nick Heath singled four times, also stealing a base for the Blue Rocks. Chris DeVito reached base four times.
Despite the loss, Wilmington is 6-2 against Down East this season.
