Salinas >> After interviewing him regarding the incident Monday, police arrested Angel Ramirez, 22, for the January murder of Dexter Barnett Sr.
Barnett, 42, was found Jan. 10 suffering from multiple gunshot wounds at North Main and East Lake streets. Officers, responding to a report of a gunshot victim, attempted CPR, but Barnett died at the scene.
Early in the investigation, the Salinas Police Department says it learned the victim had been in a verbal argument the day he was killed. Both parties went their own way after the argument. Detectives sorted through a variety of witness statements and physical evidence, leading them to Ramirez as the person Barnett was arguing with.
After detectives interviewed Ramirez and consulted with the Monterey County District Attorney’s Office, the Salinas Police Department determined there was sufficient probable cause to arrest Ramirez for the murder. He was booked at county jail on one count of homicide and for participation in a criminal street gang.
