Work To Restore Long Beach’s Queen Mary To Glory Labor Of Love For Man In Charge | News – California News

Dan Zaharoni is on a mission, and he wants all 450,000 souls in Long Beach to help.

Zaharoni is the chief development officer for Urban Commons, the real estate investment firm that holds a 66-year lease of the Queen Mary and the surrounding land. Both are owned by the city.

While Zaharoni is responsible for development at 23 Urban Commons properties around the country, he said his focus is on the Queen Mary. The company has launched a refurbishment and repair program that will rust-proof and waterproof the exterior, as well as stabilize the internal girder system that holds the ship together.

“We knew coming in that we had 450,000 stakeholders,” Zaharoni said, “as opposed to the typical development. We did substantial due diligence, so we had an idea of the type of work it would take.”
