Baseball to promote nicknames, creativity on Players Weekend – California News

Major League Baseball is taking a swing at adding a little fun for the players later this month.

When teams take the field for the first Players Weekend (Aug. 25-27), uniforms will have a much different look and some guys will have nicknames across their backs. Think “He Hate Me” of XFL fame.

Numerous players on the A’s and Giants plan to take part in the promotion, which will allow players to express their creativity beyond the special uniforms.

“That’s somewhat how life is,” Giants outfielder Hunter Pence said on the team’s website. “Everyone is different. We’re working for the same cause but we can have fun while doing it and be creative. It’s like art.”
