Sheriff’s Office releases name of second driver killed in Highway 70 crash – California News

Oroville >> The Butte County Sheriff’s Office has released the name of the second driver killed Tuesday in a head-on crash on Highway 70 south of Ophir Road.

A spokesperson Thursday said she is Gayle Scarbrough, 40, of Paradise.

According to the California Highway Patrol, Scarbrough was speeding northbound in a Ford Taurus and attempting to pass another northbound vehicle when she struck a southbound Chevrolet HHR head on.

Highway 70 is one lane in each direction where the crash happened.

Scarbrough and the driver of the Chevrolet, Paul Inman, 42, of Paradise, both died at the scene.

There were no passengers in either car, and no one else was hurt.

Inman was a Caltrans supervisor on his way to work in Marysville at the time of the wreck, a Caltrans spokesperson said.

An officer for the CHP said the crash was caused by unsafe passing. It was not immediately known whether alcohol or drugs were involved.
