Training links gap for Imperial High freshmen – California News

Since the Link Crew program was incorporated six years ago, Imperial High School has seen notable change.

The program, which has seniors act as mentors for incoming freshmen, has led all students, no matter their grade, to become more cohesive, agreed Link Crew Coordinators Yvonne Keaton and Keja Beeson.

“Now everybody has been through Link Crew … you see freshmen, sophomores, juniors and seniors and everybody mixed up, nobody hates on the freshmen,” expressed Beeson.

On Wednesday and Thursday, Beeson and Keaton led Imperial High seniors through a two-day training which taught them how to be mentors for incoming students.

“We do things that are fun and look like games but everything has a purpose,” said Keaton, who explained the training also aims to create bonds between mentors.
